About Louisa Jewell

#truthbomb:
It’s not your circumstances or life events that cause happiness.

It’s your mindset.

If you’ve struggled with feelings of depression, motivation, confidence, or to feel truly happy in your life, this might sound overly simple – or even ridiculous. But it’s true. You have the power to re-wire your thinking – and re-create your reality. And I can teach you how to do it. I’m Louisa Jewell, founder of the Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA), and a speaker and author who helps people understand the science of positive psychology – and how to use it to improve their lives.

I do this by translating the latest research into practical and simple strategies to reduce anxiety, build resilience, discover true happiness, and flourish in life and at work – and then I teach people to use them in an engaging, relatable (and sometimes really funny) way.

How I can help you ...

If positive psychology is a new concept for you, a great starting point is my book, Wire Your Brain for Confidence. You can also browse the free advice on my blog, and/or sign up to receive my Weekly Juice emails full of proven strategies and exercises right in your inbox.

I’m also working on creating online courses that will take a deeper dive into specific aspects – and applications – of positive psychology. If you’re on my list, you’ll be the first to know about them when they’re available.

How I can help your organization ...

I offer interactive workshops and keynote speeches where I dole out evidence-based advice using relatable anecdotes and real-life stories.

To date I’ve spoken in front of more than 50,000 people in a variety of settings and sectors including corporate, non-profit, government, and educational – and I’d be thrilled to share my message with your group too.

my story in script

I discovered positive psychology when I was a young mother, at home with a small child and a deep case of depression. One day during this dark period in my life, I caught an interview with a psychologist on a daytime talk show (The Marilyn Denis Show, for all my fellow Canadians).

His message intrigued me – so I made an appointment to see him, in hopes he could help me. During our sessions, he would reframe the negative things I’d say – and over time I started to see things differently – and to feel better because of it. The problem was, every time I took a break from my treatments, my depression would return.

I decided I had to learn what he knew – so I could apply the principles on my own. He gave me a copy of the book Learned Optimism by renowned psychologist Dr. Martin Seligman, which I found fascinating. In it, Dr. Seligman mentions a Master’s of Applied Positive Psychology – a program he created and leads through the University of Pennsylvania.

I felt strongly called to go. So I applied – and was accepted.

What I learned there changed both my life (my depression is now a thing of the past) and my career. I shifted my focus to sharing my knowledge about positive psychology and how it can be used to improve people’s lives and organizational performance.

Since then I’ve delivered live keynote speeches and small group workshops to tens of thousands of people. In 2012, I founded the Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA) a registered non-profit organization dedicated to improving the psychological health of Canadians through the research and application of positive psychology.

In the fall of 2017, I published my first book, Wire Your Brain For Confidence, The Science of Conquering Self-Doubt.

When I’m not busy doing this work that I love, you’re most likely to find me spending time with my two daughters, doing hot yoga and CrossFit and spending time with the best girlfriends on the planet.

I hope you find the science of psychological well-being as fascinating – and life-changing – as I do. If you have any questions at any time, I’d love to hear from you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
